Jeff Pegues is a CBS News correspondent based in Washington, D.C. He joined CBS News in July 2013 and reports for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms. Pegues has more than two decades of experience covering stories of national and international magnitude, including presidential elections, Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath, the 2009 mass shooting at Ft. Hood, Texas, Hurricane Rita and the story of Elian Gonzalez. Pegues joined CBS News after 10 years at WABC-TV in New York, where he broke many high-profile stories, such as the 2008 child custody case of David Goldman, a New Jersey father who was involved in a five-year custody battle with his son's Brazilian relatives. Pegues' coverage gained the attention of the State Department and eventually helped reunite Goldman with his 9-year-old son. Previously, Pegues was a weekday anchor and reporter at WBAL in Baltimore. He also anchored the top-rated evening newscasts at WSVN in Miami in the late 1990s.

An Emmy Award-winning journalist, Jeff is one of WABC's go-to reporters, and he continues to break high-profile stories with both local and international appeal.In 2008 Jeff introduced tri-state viewers to David Goldman, a New Jersey father involved in a five-year custody battle with his son's Brazilian relatives. Jeff's brilliant storytelling commanded international headlines; gained the attention of the State Department; and eventually helped reunite David Goldman with his nine-year-old son Sean. David Goldman credits Jeff with helping to bring international attention and government support to his cause.During his tenure at Eyewitness News, Jeff has been on the campaign trail with presidential candidates, covering the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, in 2004 and 2008 respectively. In the late 1990s Jeff anchored the then top-rated 5:30 and 6:30 weekday evening newscasts for the Fox affiliate in Miami, WSVN. When federal agents seized Elian Gonzalez from his relatives' Little Havana home, Jeff led the coverage as the dramatic events unfolded on live television. Some tri-state viewers remember Jeff from the syndicated, national show "Everyday Living," a news program he co-hosted for the UPN network in 1996.When his family returned to the U.S. they settled in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Jeff went to Westport’s Staples High School where he was an all-conference football player and a record setting all-state track star. He then attended Miami University, in Oxford, OH, where he earned a football scholarship and was a speedy starting wide receiver. Now Jeff and his family call the New York City area home.

Prior to joining the Eyewitness News team, Jeff worked as a weekday evening anchor and lead reporter at WBAL-TV in Baltimore. During his three years there his investigative reporting prompted a federal investigation into the mail-order sale of oxycontin.After a series of floods in Maryland trapped panicked motorists in their cars, Jeff demonstrated the quickest and most effective way to get out of a sinking car alive. His work in Baltimore earned him two Emmy Award nominations for reporting and a nomination for his work on the anchor desk.
