Spent the last several years transitioning from RF engineer to SI engineer and from designing RF/analog circuitry to designing high speed (67GHz) digital circuitry. Had to break the old habit of viewing everything in the frequency/power domain and start analyzing in the time/voltage domain with ADS channel simulations and eye diagrams. Developed useful expertise with IBIS/AMI models inside a channel simulation of a complete PCIe channel and learned about the types of impairments that prevent high-speed digital data from flowing through a channel without errors.I coach a small team of younger engineers about modeling board-to-board connector transitions in HFSS and interpreting S-parameter simulations (ADS) and measurements and measuring and de-embedding with a VNA. Also extended receiver design expertise from IF output well into ADC and Nyquist zones. Developed a receiver software test utility to measure gain, noise figure, and intercept point. All measurements are taken with the receiver ADC rather than test equipment. A Python program accepts the ADC sample data and performs all the required calculations.RF Engineer with expertise in all aspects of receiver design: specification, system planning, frequency planning, block diagram, component selection, modeling, schematic capture, PCB layout, characterization, and testing.
