Jeff Shrader began his career with the JeffCoSheriff's Office in 1984 as a deputy assigned to the county jail. As the agency's first administrative sergeant, he coordinated a statewide forum to address juvenile violence, in addition to creating the department's first Citizens' Advisory Council and Citizens' Academy. In 1994, he attended the FBI National Academy as a sergeant, and has gone on to hold leadership roles throughout the Sheriff's Office.Promoted to the rank of division chief in 1999, Jeff has overseen operations for all aspects of the department. He spearheaded the agencies community-based decentralization effort and the SMART JeffCo program to improve agency service and response, and to enhance accountability for those services. Recently, Shrader was the agency's representative for a renovation and construction project which improved the Sheriff’s Complex aging central plant systems, expanded court holding space, and constructed a state-of-the-art forensic crime lab. He also coordinated the implementation of a regional crime lab with other Jefferson County law enforcement agencies.Sheriff Shrader has served on the boards of several regional governmental services including serving from 2004-2014 as a trustee on the board of Colorado Counties Officials and Employees Retirement Association - CCOERA, serving two years as board chairman.On November 4th, 2014, Jeff Shrader, by a substantial margin, won the general election to become Jefferson County's Sheriff. He took office on January 13th, 2015.Sheriff Shrader holds a bachelor's degree in Management of Human Reources from Colorado Christian University and previously completed coursework towards a master’s of business administration degree at Regis University.
