Led a team of highly skilled database administrators responsible for all the operational (OLTP) databases in the enterprise. Primary expertise is with the DB2 family of products (on z/OS, LUW, and iSeries). Group responsibilities also include administration of Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Redis.I have the opportunity in my current position to stay technical. I routinely handle database administrator tasks, including performance tuning, data modeling, install, and configuration.On the management side, I handle personnel scheduling and allocation, database vendor management, technical direction, audit reporting and compliance, project management, personnel career growth and training, mentoring, and help direct data governance.

Database Administrator focused on DB2 for OS/390, DB2/2, DB2 Universal Database, and DB2 Connect .Responsibilities included instance, database, and SQL tuning, object creation, authority grants, fixpack maintenance, and development staff database training.Highlights:Architected and implemented database tier (DB2/2) for distribution center scanning application. Activities included performance tuning (instance, database, and SQL), physical data layout, backup and recovery, and scripts for initial rollout and ongoing database engine maintenance to multiple locations. Also, implemented DB2 Connect infrastructure for accessing data on DB2 for OS/390, which made use of both SNA and TCP/IP protocols.Assisted in implementation of DB2 for OS/390 data sharing. Project involved merging objects (tables, indexes, packages, etc.) and authority from a standalone DB2 subsystem into a data sharing group with minimal impact to the business.Architected and implemented migration of store back office environment from Microsoft SQL Server to DB2 Universal Database. Scripts were created for database engine install, configuration, and data export and import. Rollout to over 300 locations.

COBOL developer responsible for Accounts Payable, Vendor Chargeback, and Vendor Information applications. Application programs were a mixture of batch and CICS making use of DB2 for z/OS tables, VSAM files, and sequential files. Tools utilized were FileAid, QMF, and Viasoft SmartTest.Highlights:Designed and implemented UPC matching for Invoice and Receipt reconciliation process. Improved the accuracy of the process and lessened the manual intervention required of Accounts Payable personnel, which freed them up for other tasks.Overhauled the check printing process to utilize a high speed mass production printer. Check run was trimmed down to a couple of hours rather than an entire business day. Also, this eliminated the need for Accounts Payable personnel to monitor the printing process.
