The workshops that I facilitate share improvisation and physical theater with non-professional performers. The key components are listening and building with what is present in the room.People frequently associate improvisation with comedy: professional performers being verbally witty and quick on their feet. Improvisation is about much more than laughs and it doesn't "belong" to professionals. Each of us plays various roles over the course of our day: family member, co-worker, advocate and supporter. For nearly 7 years I brought the Spirit of The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp to children at UMass Memorial Medical Center and Hasbro Children's Hospital. I assisted the kids in redefining their personal narratives; through Art Projects, Games and Humor I encouraged them to connect with their innate curiosity and creativity. These activities (and attitudes) allowed the kids to either be distracted from their immediate challenges or to express themselves during difficult times. Finding Fun in the Hospital is easy if you know where to look!

I worked for as a Clown Doctor for The Big Apple Circus between 1997 and 2004. I just recently signed back on "to run away with the circus" in order to share humor in the hospital setting. While it is only a few days a month, this job is a calling; there is much to learn while wearing a red nose.
