Mr. Stone serves as Vice President & Associate General Counsel providing a full range of legal services to Stantec’s North American offices. Prior to assuming his current role, he served as one of Stantec’s Corporate Counsel team providing legal services for the U.S. East operating unit. Before joining Stantec, he was General Counsel and Secretary of The Sear-Brown Group, an architectural, engineering, planning, and construction firm. Stantec acquired The Sear-Brown Group in 2004. Mr. Stone’s current responsibilities include contract negotiations; identifying, evaluating, and advising management and staff regarding quality and project management issues; loss prevention strategies, dispute avoidance and resolution; acquisitions and employee matters. Mr. Stone also provides legal advice to Stantec’s U.S. Retirement Plan Administrative Committee, and serves on the Integrity Management Team and Disclosure Committee. He is a member of the New York Bar Association and the American Council of Engineering Companies’ Legal Counsel Forum. He has frequently lectured on construction law issues and was previously an instructor for the Construction Specifications Institute. Before joining Sear-Brown, he practiced law for ten years concentrating in construction law and design professional malpractice defense.
