I started teaching chemistry at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, SC in 1995 after finishing my B.S. in Chemistry at Wofford College. I was the first in my family to attend and graduate from college. I would go on over the next 20 years to earn a master's degree and a doctoral degree. I have never stopped learning. In 2005, I introduced forensic science as a course at the high school, and have been teaching that ever since. After some personal challenges, I developed a keen interest in personal finance in 2013. I learned all I could about personal finance, applied it to my life, and have tried to teach others all that I have learned. We started a personal finance club at the high school in 2019, in which students can learn about and practice the basic foundations of personal finance. I started working as a financial coach in 2019, helping individuals and couples work on their finances, eliminate debt, and create sustainable budgets and plans. In 2023, I completed all of the coursework required for the Certified Financial Planner designation. In 2024, we started offering a course in personal finance at the high school, and I volunteered to teach it. Also in 2024, with the help of many wonderful people in the financial services field, I successfully launched a Registered Investment Advisory firm called Venables Financial Solutions. Venables Financial Solutions is a fee-only financial planning firm that specializes in helping teachers and other public employees develop financial plans that optimize their cash flows, investments, taxes, insurance, pensions, and other retirement plans so that they can confidently enjoy their lives while serving others, and continue their standard of living when they choose to end their service to others.
