Fuel And Tobacco Officer 2Government Of Nova Scotia Mar 2009 - Dec 2013Nova Scotia, CanadaThis postion was in an enforcement unit known as Compliance and Special Investigations (CSI). This Unit and positions are Halifax based and responsible for enforcing the Revenue Act and Regulations which ensure that the appropriate Fuel and Tobacco Tax Revenues are collected and remitted to the Province. The Section is further responsible for enforcement of the Petroleum Products Pricing Act and Regulations, and the Sales Tax Act and Regulations. The Revenue Act Part 1 pertains, in part to fuel distribution, taxable and tax exempt usage, licensing and storage. Part III of the Act deals with tobacco importation, distribution, wholesale and retail sales, marking and licensing. The Fuel and Tobacco Officer 2 (FTO2)plans, and conducts various routine inspections, investigations and takes appropriate action under the Revenue Act, Petroleum Products Pricing Act, Sales Tax Act and Regulations made pursuant to these Acts. This includes and is not limited to investigations generated by complaints received by the CSI section, and may include informal tasking or assignments with other provincial departments and law enforcement agencies for short limited duration's. The FTO2 works with the Manager in maintaining a quality assurance program for the evaluation of investigations and inspections of vendors/consumers. He will participate in both mobile and stationary surveillance and undercover purchases of evidence pursuant to the provisions of the Revenue Act and Regulations and under the provisions of Section 25 of the Criminal Code. He will prepare and submit Operational Plans, ensure that adequate notes and appropriate forms are completed on any investigation. Under the direction of the Manager the successful applicant will be responsible to ensure that all safety concerns are enforced and will be required on occasion to testify in court as it pertains to various investigations that he has conducted or participated in. -
