Edward Hebert School of MedicineFirst Year: A 40 week program devoted to the basic biomedical sciences, the psychosocial aspects of health and disease, and an introduction to military medicine and patient care techniques. Specific coursework included: Biochemistry, Clinical Head Neck and Functional Neuroscience, Fundamentals of Epidemiology and Biometrics, Human Context in Healthcare, Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Introduction to Structure and Function, Medical Psychology, Military Studies and Medical History, Military Medical Field Studies, Diagnostic Parasitology and Medical Zoology, and Structure and Function of Systems.Second Year: A 35 week program which continues to emphasize the basic sciences and the psychosocial aspects of disease, patient care techniques and military medicine. During the second year, emphasis is also given to preparing for the third-year clerkships by integrating the basic sciences with diagnosis of clinical problems and their management. Specific coursework included: Introduction to Clinical Reasoning, Ethical Legal and Social Aspects of Medical Care, Human Behavior, Introduction to Clinical Medicine II, Introduction to Clinical Medicine III, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Military Studies II, Pathology, Pharmacology, Preventive Medicine, and Radiographic Interpretation.Third Year: A 48 week program of required clinical clerkships in family practice, medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry and surgery. Specific coursework included: Anesthesia, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Family Practice, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Surgery.Fourth Year: A 41 week program including Military Contingency Medicine and Military Emergency Medicine. Specific coursework included: Military Preventive Medicine, Neurology, Hematology/Oncology, Military Contingency Medicine, Military Emergency Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Intensive Care.
