I had the dream back in high school V.I.C.A. Drafting class to become an architect, funny how life changes your path when opportunity knocks. Little did I know that opportunity would lead me to a life-long career in the steel construction industry. After my US Army service, I earned a TAD in CADD Drafting and started my career in drafting. I worked drafting electrical panel drawings, maps and circuit diagrams for Salt River Project, where I got my first taste of 3D modeling. My professional steel detailing career started by answering an ad in the newspaper for someone to draw shop drawings for steel horse stabling parts and components. The company was not looking for an in-house employee, they wanted a professional consulting draftsman. I decided to answer the call by creating a drafting company that could fill this roll, and for the next 11 years I owned and operated a steel detailing company. Having become weary from entrepreneurship, I chose to close my company, and reenter the workforce as an employee.Over the years I have developed a keen eye for detail, critical thinking skills and a desire for perfection. I worked hand in hand with many steel fabricators and learned shop practices and methods. I grew to understand the best way of configuring steel components that will help maximize efficiency and minimize wasted time and materials. I grew to learn welding symbology and to understand how to apply the welding practices that conform to industry standards and meet engineering requirements. I also began to see potential challenges and became proactive in helping to solve them. I have written RFI's and attended design meetings with architects, engineers and general contractors to coordinate and eliminate conflicts, before they become an issue. I have extensive knowledge of steel shapes and understand how they have to work together to form the skeleton of many types of structures. I have over ten years working as a 3D modeler in SDS/2 and have done countless projects in both a 2D and 3D environment. In 2015, I transitioned to the role of estimator, doing takeoffs, creating proposals, making sales and doing pre-construction coordination. The years of experience in steel detailing plays right into my hand as an estimator. I have also assumed the role of Project Manager and have enjoyed the challenges associated with coordinating material, manpower, equipment and assisting the buildings come to life. I really enjoy the steel industry and have a desire to be a part of it indefinitely
