I am an Ethanol and Utilities Operations Technician at Cargill's corn-processing plant in Blair, Nebraska. I recently finished the bulk of my training on the fermentation and distillation portions of my duties and am now training in the Utilities (Boilers, Air Compressors, Chillers, Reverse Osmosis Units, etc.) area. My duties also currently include maintaining process areas at a food-process-level of sanitation (i.e., QMP duties) and championing pipe “leak reporting” amongst crewmates, safely loading/unloading liquids (ethanol) into/from railroad tanker-cars and the safe movement of rail cars on the Cargill site's tracks (I am DoT trained). I have begun training on controlling the plant's various utilities (water, steam, air, etc.) that keeps the entire Cargill site running. After a year and a half here at Cargill ... with all of the piping/processes I have to learn ... and trace/walk down (and "UP," there's always an Up! ... We do not have elevators, only stairs!), I can see why we operations technicians are called "Industrial Athletes!"

Oversaw qualification process and tracking of newly-hired welders at a (Cargill) corn-based processing plant in Blair, Nebraska. Hired on, short-term, to assist a one-deep QA / QC position get back "on track" following a family illness. Assisted management on four total projects ... mainly on two of those. Read and interpreted 3D piping drawings to verify quality and location of 2,709 small-bore Field Welds in just one of those projects. Tracked/scheduled X-Ray & Dye-Penetration Non-Destructive Testing on pipe welds based on a percentage (number of pipe-welds & welders). Drew 3D piping/tracking drawings, as needed. Completed 10-Hour OSHA Training Course. Gave safety briefings to newly-hired employees and did some office management (phones, paychecks, billing statements, receiving (parts) department, etc.).

Guided outside agencies, sister Dept. of Defense services, contractors, & Air Force military/civilian personnel to successful deployments of IT (hardware) assets & (application/software) programs (12 projects, total) within the established USAF & DoD/National Security Agency guidelines. Oversaw programming/expenditure of $5M+ in IT & site fiber & telephone infrastructure expenses. Worked closely w/onsite Supply Office for project material ordering & “on-time” delivery. Was my site's top "Subject Matter Expert" on the IT "Requirements Process" within both the Air Force's & NSA's regulation sets. Led organization supporting 2,000 Department of Defense/Air Force users operating in a 24/7 secured environment. Responsible for staff of 45 technicians troubleshooting IT software/hardware (1st & 2nd level) problems. Ensured IT Project task completions by managing daily inputs, from external and internal entities, to IT Requirements Document Database. Briefed site commander and staff daily on IT system outages; reported on platform impact and root causes. Wrote/rewrote maintenance guidance and other site Business Continuity Plans - including 'Plan for onsite emergency large-capacity backup generators. Recruited top-notch "out-of-hide" hardware technicians to be front-line Help Desk technicians to round-out/enhance their individual skill-sets (these were planned, 18-month-long tours, eventually rotating back to their respective maintenance work centers with a greater understanding of the "maintenance process"). Planned and implemented a 1-day move of entire IT Help Desk between campus buildings, with no disruption of 24-hour service. Managed fleet of 11 AF vehicles across three separate units as well as a fleet of golf carts in an enclosed campus environment.

Managed the daily activities of a 14-person USAF maintenance work center --repairing radio/audio/alarm equipment-- supporting over 2,000 Department of Defense personnel working in the National Intelligence community ... included dispatching work crews for unscheduled outages and phased IT project taskings, managing equipment/mission down-time for preventive maintenance inspections, and managing/documenting individual training for Air Force technicians. Mentored junior personnel while touting both Safety and Security. Noteworthy accomplishment: Led a seven-person project team in installation of alarm cabling, passive magnetic devices, and motion detectors to secure a 50,000 square foot building supporting Department of Defense efforts in a single evening shift.

Managed the (USAF's) Core Automated Maintenance (Management) System (i.e., "CAMS") for the (200+) support personnel in my unit (included Training Management entries). Additionally, I filled in as an IT hardware help desk technician when that work center's manning was low. Corrected and maintained USAF equipment records and recurring preventive maintenance inspections on that equipment in the CAMS database.

Spent the first 12 months in this position developing a 25-technician maintenance training plan "from scratch" ... for which I received U.S. Air Force "Inspector General" (Office) kudos as a (1997) "benchmark" program. Grew into the "Intelligence Community (and IT~) Support" -role during the rest of this time, concentrating on Alarms (Physical Security) components, installation, and maintenance. Also earned "Best on Base" recognition for my Ground Safety Monitor Program while deployed (May-September, 1998) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

As a Systems Maintenance (SYMNT) Engineer, I created an online noise-level engineering database (using the just-released Microsoft Excel "Office 95" application) from years of compiled printed reports and catalogues. I also developed an HTML "INTRAnet" -based web page training system for the local Radio Frequency SYMNT laboratory training course. Finally, I was allowed to assemble/configure four PCs (with no prior experience!) as well as fabricating an engineering prototype radio interface for one of these PCs; this enabled the PC to be remoted (outside the continental U.S.) as an RF-spectrum noise test data collector/sender.

This was my two-year "overseas" tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force, spent at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey (near Adana), where I developed a maintenance training plan for a five-technician work shop that fixed (HARRIS Corporation) High Frequency (HF) tactical radio systems ... (connecting Turkey back to Germany ... and on to the United States) ... as well as some public address and other HF radio/satellite communication systems.

Advised principals, S. and J. Gerke, on legal, safety, and spacial (etc.) aspects of the commercial real estate project, underway as of 2007, to build Blair, Nebraska's first 350+ seat Convention Center. Further, in this timeframe, I assisted the Gerkes with a billing dispute regarding the size and materials utilized in the construction of a hillside retaining wall that framed the majority of two adjoining sides of the intended Convention Center construction site, located in southern Blair (See 'Projects').

Excelled in Games Workshop's Hobby/Sales Division as a Field Hobby Representative (Known in Games Workshop as an "Outrider"). As one of 170+ Outriders across GW's "North America" sales zone, I was based, as the sole GW Outrider in the Greater San Antonio, Texas area ... and made business calls at comic book and game stores throughout San Antonio and other parts of southern Texas ... as well as at some stores in the Florida Panhandle.As an Outrider "Demonstration Specialist," I arranged demonstration booth time in each of my owner's stores and brought new people into the Games Workshop Hobby (... a niche market of gamer/enthusiasts that enjoy collecting, painting, and wargaming with table-top science fiction and fantasy miniatures). My actions (demonstrations of the games/hobby ... sometimes called cold sales) directly impacted the company's bottom line by encouraging growth of sales (by increasing demand via both new-and-old customers) for the gaming materials and miniatures in the Games Workshop hobby ... at each of the brick-and-mortar game/comic book stores I called upon each month.Additionally, my expertise of making Games Workshop games "Fast, Furious, and FUN" enabled me to manage preset scenario wargaming tables ... sometimes two tables at a time ... at Games Workshop's conventions, each called a "Games Workshop GAMES DAY," at a total of twelve of of these events (held in Chicago, IL and Baltimore, MD) during these seven years. Overall, I took part in 61 total Outrider-assisted or -staffed events in just over seven years (We were expected to do about four events per year, average), before the Games Workshop Hobby/Sales Division was given a different direction to follow, in 2004.
