I'm the lead developer of Seelio's flagship product, which is an online portfolio management system. We're a part of Keypath Education. (Try it! It's very cool. http://www.seelio.com.) We use modern web development techniques, including node.js (server-side JavaScript), MongoDB, cloud computing, docker containerization, and more. Every day I have my sleeves rolled up, doing about half dev work and half devops work. I produce JavaScript code, allocate EC2 servers, analyze big data via Hive, and more.

**My consulting company is going on indefinite hiatus as I have accepted a position at Seelio. I will not be accepting new contracts at the moment. :-) **Developing various cloud-based software systems with a focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and some OpenStack using agile techniques. Created a scalable web-based platform that is used for building cloud-based websites. The software is a browser-based, single-page application that allows web developers to develop scalable, database-driven web applications that run in the cloud. It includes many content management features. The GUI is mobile-ready; the software itself was implemented using Foundation, while the sites it generates use Bootstrap, with both cases using responsive design. The interface is clean and easy-to-use, making use of CCS3 and HTML5. The front-end uses JSON extensively and exchanges data with the back-end server using JSON. The software is written mostly in server-side JavaScript (node.js) with a substantial amount of client-side JavaScript as well. The software makes use of asynchronous libraries including async.js and scales under Amazon EC2, and fully interacts with various AWS services, including S3 and CloudFront. Using a token-based, sessionless system, users logging in are able to connect to any replicated system without the replication impacting their user experience. The software also interacts with other cloud systems, including Cloudant (cloud-based CouchDB database) and Cloudinary (for live image processing). The system makes use of multiple databases, including MySQL, CouchDB, and mongoDB. It integrates with PC software, presently through Dropbox by using the Dropbox developer API.

Worked on a team that developed and maintained web-based software that handles custom web sites for clients. Software was developed in C#/ASP.NET and SQL Server. The software lets users visit the web site and register. It saves their email address and interests, after which they can download white papers. Developed several custom Silverlight controls in C#. Additional duties included editing and writing for the company’s DevSource.com website, and contributing to eWEEK.com.

Convergys Corporation. Worked on the architecture for a custom implementation of Infinys 2.2, a product suite that includes billing and order management. Wrote code in Java and J2EE. Put together training documents for Cygent, a product that provides order entry and order management for telecom companies. Presented in-house training courses, including a three-day course on software extensibility.

Built an ASP.NET website for a municipal client; the site accesses a Microsoft SQL Server database using C# and ADO.NET along with T-SQL. Developed the database and coded the appropriate SQL; wrote C# code. Users of the website could log in to the site and look up information and interact with other users.Designed a PHP/MySQL website for an online vintage clothing retailer; the site generates dynamic content based on an online sales catalog and communicates with eBay for order processing.Coded a website for an online training company in PHP/MySQL, which allowed administrators to update the course catalog via the web, while students could register for the classes online, and take part in message boards.Wrote books including Designing Highly Usable Software (Sybex) and C++ All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies (Wiley). The C++ book spanned most of the 1998 ANSI C++ Standard, including beginning topics as well as advanced topics such as the container classes in the standard library; using templatized classes; virtual classes.Developed an online C++ training course called C++ for the Absolute Beginner. The course was offered online at community colleges across the country through ed2go.com.Spent a year consulting for Convergys Corporation. Used UML and the Rational Process to create an application monitoring system in C++. Coded in C++, and Perl to create a database software system that tracks cell phone usage in real-time. Developed a class hierarchy along with templates that interfaced with classes generated by Oracle’s Pro*C tool. Used SQL in conjunction with the generated classes to access the database.

Used UML to help design a telecom management product. Coded in C++ using templates; worked on an agent code generator that generated a class hierarchy in C++, requiring careful attention to static member initializations and template instantiations. Ported software from Unix to Win32.
