Group Finance Director / CfoClarion Events May 2005 - Jun 2012London, GbClarion Events was a Private Equity backed Management Buy Out (MBO) of a London based exhibition, Conference and publication business. Clarion's growth was exceptional since the buy-out in October 2004 with EBITDA increasing from $5m to over $40m through organic changes, new product development and over 20 acquisitions. From a total staff of 90 in the UK in 2004, the group reached over 500 people in 10 countries and runs over 150 events across the globe in 2012. As the finance leader within the group, I developed a scalable accounting function to support the rapidly growing business and changing demands. The finance team grew to nearly 50 with teams in the UK and with 4 small international hubs. For each acquisition, I managed the due diligence reporting projects, international tax planning, capital raising from banks and investors, creating excel based models for each acquisition. I then lead the integration of each company establishing processes, timetables and holding people accountable to deadlines.My role included the management of the internal reporting of results historically (JD Edwards) and forecasting the future trading, managing the treasury of the group. I worked closely with the heads of each portfolio in their commercial decision making and produced 3 year strategic budgets for the group.We executed a secondary buyout / exit in 2008 to VSS with additional finance backing from Mezzanine houses and a club of 5 banks. Monthly reporting to different groups included actuals with commercial analysis, updated forecasts for the financial year, covenant testing and projections as well as cashflow forecasts.I designed and established internal control processes for an international group, including the roll our of a new ERP sales system. We reviewed business unit profitability and provided go / no-go analysis on product launches, provided recession scenario analytics and management recommendations. -
