Dr. Ferranti is the Associate Director for the Duke Center for Health Informatics (DCHI), a multidisciplinary institute dedicated to training the next generation of health informaticians while simultaneously pursuing cutting edge informatics research. He has been involved in the successful submission of several federal grants in support of DCHI. He teaches two courses in the informatics graduate program, and has helped design the unique multidisciplinary informatics curriculum at Duke. The new Masters of Management Science in Clinical Informatics (MMCI) program will graduate its first class of 23 students in May of 2011.

Jeffrey M. Ferranti, MD, MS, is the Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Medical Informatics at Duke Health. He is a Professor of Pediatrics and Bioinformatics at the Duke University School of Medicine, and a leader of Duke’s Master of Management in Clinical Informatics (MMCI) program. Dr. Ferranti is responsible for the visioning, strategic planning, and effective adoption of integrated technology and information solutions that enable high quality clinical care, research, and education. He serves as an informatics thought leader, both internal and external to Duke, and, in partnership with our wider medical community, develops the overarching informatics strategy in support of the Duke Health mission. Dr Ferranti leads a large group of talented IT professionals responsible for all technology and biomedical engineering services across DUHS, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, and the Private Diagnostic Clinic. Dr. Ferranti has led Duke's enterprise-wide Epic installation, deploying a single seamless EHR across 4 hospitals and 300+ ambulatory clinics. He also leads Duke Health’s enterprise strategies in digital health, industry tech partnerships, and data science. He received his medical degree from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec and earned a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics from the Duke Pratt School of Engineering. Dr. Ferranti completed both his Pediatric Residency and Neonatology Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and maintains an active clinical practice in neonatal critical care at Duke University Hospital.

Ferranti is responsible for leading a team charged with the visioning, strategic planning, and effective adoption of integrated technology and information solutions that enable high quality clinical care, research, and education. He also serves as an informatics thought leader, both internal and external to Duke, and, in partnership with our wider medical community, develops an overarching informatics strategy in support of the Duke Medicine mission. He is the leader of Duke's enterprise wide Epic deployment and has been involved in the project from initial business planning through it's recent successful ambulatory go live. Duke Hospital and the Duke Medicine Pavilion are expected to go live on Epic in the summer of 2013.

Jeffrey M. Ferranti, MD, MS, is a Pediatrician and Associate Chief Information Officer for the Duke University Health System. He is also Associate Director for the Duke Center for Health Informatics. He provides physician leadership to both the enterprise data warehouse group and leads the DUHS Meaningful Use initiatives. He works to integrate clinical, safety, and quality data across the health system. He is responsible for the strategic planning of IT initiatives related to patient safety and quality improvement, and is trained as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He was the Principle Investigator of an AHRQ funded research study entitled “Automated Adverse Drug Event Detection and Intervention”, and presently serves as the Duke PI of both an AHRQ funded Pediatric EHR Grant and a GME funded Tablet PC grant. He holds a master’s degree in medical Informatics from the Duke Pratt School of Engineering. Dr. Ferranti's research interests include: healthcare Business Intelligence methodologies, healthcare data warehousing, health analytics, healthcare information exchange, interoperability standards, and computerized patient safety initiatives. Dr. Ferranti and his team have extensive experience in technology design, development, and deployment for the healthcare environment. He maintains an active practice in neonatal critical care at Duke University Hospital and Durham Regional Hospital. He is presently engaged in the strategic planning and widespread adoption of meaningful use across the Duke University Health System.

As Director of Pediatric Informatics, Dr. Ferranti was responsible for the enhancement, testing, and deployment of McKesson's HEO product across children's services. He collaborated with a team of McKesson developers to create and deploy the pediatric advanced dosing system. This system ensured the safe prescribing of pediatrics drugs, TPN, and complex IV fluids.Dr. Ferranti was also responsible for computerized patient safety initiatives for Duke University Health System. In this capacity, he developed and deployed Duke's enterprise wide Safety Reporting System (SRS), as well as its novel computerized Adverse Drug Event Surveillance Systems (ADE-S). Both of these systems have been in continuous use across Duke medicine for the past 7 years.
