Scope includes system interface design, partitioning of features/functions, use-cases, ISO 26262, fault detection strategies and comprehensive diagnostics (including CARB). Charging standards include J1772, DIN 70121, ISO15118, and various GB/T standards for the China markets.Interfacing organizations included BMS Software authors, several suppliers for power-conversion components, powertrain controls, SW Security, planning and strategy teams, marketing, battery manufacturing, vehicle assembly, service/dealerships.

Led battery management system development and functional integration of the high-voltage energy storage and delivery subsystem on the 2012 Focus Electric (BEV). Responsibilities included VIT monitoring, cell-balancing, power limits, thermal management, HV safety, vehicle power-mode's, charge management, state-of-charge and energy-available algorithms, and all associated diagnostics and system validation. Aggressive timing, technology (im)maturity, and manufacturing challenges required I lean heavily on 20 years of experience with production and research powertrain systems-engineering, six-sigma quality and reliability methods, and system-validation development.
