As an Emergency Preparedness Specialist in the Reactor Licensing Branch one of the primary roles is to ensure that emergency plan amendment requests comply with regulatory requirements. Emergency plans incorporate several disciplines such as operations, engineering, maintenance, and health physics. The combined knowledge and experience I have gained in emergency preparedness as an NRC Resident Inspector, Headquarters Operations Officer, licensee oversight and as a Health Physicist enables well-rounded understanding, logical conclusions and effective evaluations of the different aspects that are combined in an emergency plan.

As a Health Physicist in the program development and compliance group, our primary responsibility is to ensure compliance with 10 CFR Part 37 requirements which include materials and radiation safety, incident response and security. Under this role, I supported radiation safety routine operations, responded to individual contamination events, serves as backup to the incident response program area lead and was assigned as the program area lead for irradiator security and compliance. I was successful at implementing significant improvements to the existing processes, making them smarter and reducing the time effort to complete tasks and reducing errors.
