I am an inventor, entrepreneur, professional engineer, and fluid controls geek. In 2007, I founded Equilibar by moving my start-up business out of the basement into a testing and manufacturing facility near Asheville, North Carolina. Equilibar designs and manufactures specialty fluid control devices based on a radically different technology. These valves and regulators are uniquely well suited for ambitious projects in fields such as hydrogen energy, biotech, aerospace, and institutional research. In 2021, Equilibar joined the Richards Industrials family. As an exited founder, I feel lucky to be able to pursue exciting opportunities as I continue to lead innovation for Equilibar while also following my own personal passions. I spend my days mentoring younger engineers, collaborating on technical initiatives, supporting start-ups, and playing an active role in environmental and equality efforts. I am a licensed PE in the state of North Carolina and hold more than a dozen US and international patents. Throughout my career—since my time in the mechanical engineering program at Clemson University and my early days as an engineer for the DuPont company—I have found that working with creative scientists, technicians and engineers is the most satisfying part of my job. In 2021, I was honored to receive the Federal Laboratory Consortium Technology Transfer Award in recognition of Equilibar’s work on an alternative ventilator design in collaboration with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. I look forward to learning about other interesting technical opportunities that line up with my skills.Outside my career, I am proud of my volunteer work that helped establish DuPont State Recreational Forest and prouder still of my family, including my two creative and passionate young adult children.
