Experience is the best teacher. Have you heard that old adage before? The first time I heard it was on a recording of a 1930's radio program when I was a teenager. Since that time, I have worked in a wide variety of areas including factory line work, automotive sales, delivery service, mortuary transport, research, athletic administration, teaching, construction project management, and higher education administration. I found that I could perform well in each position, though I obviously did some better than others. What I have found is that I really can do anything well enough to get paid for it. That is what experience has taught me. The greater reality that I have come to understand is that any position that does not drive me becomes empty and unfulfilling.I have often heard: "What is your passion?" or "You need to chase your passion." What is interesting is that I have not heard one universal definition of what passion is as it relates to work/career pursuits. To some, it is what makes them get out of bed in the morning. For others, it brings the most joy to them. I don't think those definitions apply to me. However, even without that all-encompassing definition, I have discovered what is the most fulfilling and energizing activity for me that provides a useful service to society as well. I am a teacher. What is interesting to me is that it doesn't really matter what the subject is, I just love being in front of a group, large or small, and sharing what I have learned. I have taught courses using the knowledge I gained in my university studies, courses that I got specific training to teach, even individual classes or seminars on a topic like goal setting or financial planning where my training came through personal experience. Not only do I love teaching, I am good at it. I can teach youth, college students, or adults in a variety of settings. I believe that teaching skills have application in any industry. That is my passion. I am a teacher.

In the spring of 2014, I was involved in an auto accident. While my body was mostly unaffected, I suffered a severe concussion that affected my thinking and processing fairly significantly. I did not work again until the fall of 2015, when I took a position with the postal service that made me work on my memory skills and walk 7-10 miles a day. I feel fully recovered mentally and physically.
