I have over 25 years experience in Transportation law, with a concentration in railroad and trucking issues. I primarily represent shippers (railroad and truck customers) in their dealings with rail and truck carriers of all sizes. I practice before the Surface Transportation Board (STB), the Federal Railroad Administration, the Federal Motor Carrrier Safety Administration, and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, as well as several district and appellate courts.Since 2007, Chambers USA has recognized me as one of the leading attorneys in the nation on rail transportation issues on behalf of shippers. This rating is based upon interviews with both peers and clients.My clients include large and small companies across multiple industries, including the agriculture, automotive, chemical & plastics, electric utility, mining, petroleum, and steel industries. Many of these companies have been clients for over a decade.My work encompasses a broad range of matters that include economic and safety-related regulatory issues, contract negotiations, commercial and contract disputes, litigation and arbitration. My rail experience includes contract negotiations, rate regulation, railroad construction, railroad mergers, railroad abandonments, rail service problems, rail safety laws, and hazardous materials transportation. In the trucking industry, I have experience in contract negotiations, motor carrier and broker operating authority, motor carrier safety laws, and hazardous materials transportation.For the past several years, on behalf of major chemical and plastic producers, I have been heavily involved before the STB in the litigation of large rate cases against major railroads. These are some of the first cases brought by non-coal shippers and are among the largest and most complex rail rate cases ever filed. In addition, I have been at the forefront of regulatory proceedings concerning the transportation of hazardous materials by rail.
