Advised two U.S. Special Representatives for Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP) on military aspects to diplomatic engagement in the region. Accompanied SRAP on travel to the region and engagement with key regional leaders. Led a tri-lateral diplomatic working group to facilitate travel of all parties to eventual peace talks to end the war in Afghanistan.

Chairman of the Joint Chief's advisor on security matters across Asia, including China, India, Korea, Japan and Australia. Represented the Chairman at key NSC meetings, and as a member of U.S. interagency teams in bilateral talks throughout the region. Commanded a multi-aircraft mobility wing with 3,500 military and civilian members and a base population of 11,000 near Tokyo, Japan. Installation commander of the United States' key mobility hub in Asia, and host to over 50 U.S. agencies and headquarters of U.S. Forces, Japan. Responsible for relationships and civic engagement with five distinct townships.

In-residence military fellow at CFR's Manhattan headquarters. Led military roundtable series, and provided senior military officer perspective to Council activities.
