I reorganized a problem area that was not being addressed and was creating a safety hazard. Several rows of stacked material containers obstructed vision for forklifts and pedestrians moving through the aisle and most had been there for over a year. I rotated all products back into the warehouse inventory and re-used to area to expand our large-parts receiving capability by about 40%I was part of a continuous improvement team that redesigned out daily safety meetings to be more conducive to employee engagement. The idea to make this change was initially brought up by myself. I held a leadership position in this team and was in charge of maintaining all records, notes, and schedules to ensure the changes adhered to our deadlines.I’ve led initiatives for improving cross-department practices. I worked with our packaging department, and personally re-trained them, to eliminate consistent discrepancies in inventory counts. I collaborated with our “specialized storage” department to eliminate another issue that caused significant non-value work to be created. I made both departments understand the limitations, both physically and computer systems-wise, that resulted in wasted product movement. This unnecessary movement reduced by more than 90%.Further, I completed one reporting project and was able to forward on two more important projects to help my team succeed. Using Microsoft Access and raw data from SAP EWM, I created a reporting database for my direct supervisor, reducing his average time to report by 80%. I had begun rekindling interest in our safety and continuous improvement goals. Because of my efforts, metrics for achieving these goals were constantly updated and available for all employees. For empty boxes, containers, pallets, etc, there was no inventory or movement tracked, creating a considerable gap in traceable productivity and available storage. I created the first steps in this process to systematically track and move these products.
