Samsung Austin Semiconductor (SAS) - As a senior leader of 57 EHS Staff, managed and lead Samsung's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for it's 14 and 24nm, 300mm semiconductor fab located in Austin, Texas. Notable results include stewarding strategic leadership to a team of five direct reports and 52 indirect reports at the top-ranked semiconductor foundry in the US. Oversaw all aspects of daily operations and maintain accountability for a $31 million annual operating expense budget. Establish annual strategy, define KPIs, determine the overall direction for all EHS disciplines, and report EHS progress to executive leadership and all functional teams. Provided EHS guidance and direction to an extensive workforce of contractors, vendors, and suppliers,. Our sites are fully permitted, have obtained R2, ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 certifications and have been audited to EPEAT standards.As the External EHS Audits Manager, I was responsible for EHS auditing of Sim’s downstream supply chain, including hazardous waste suppliers and commodity company’s compliance to ISO14001/18001, R2 and e-Stewards standards. Developed and published management system documents addressing integration of new business through mergers and acquisitions, auditing the downstream supply chain, and management of a web-based audit database system.

Supplier manager for precious/high-value metals reclaim. Drove the implementation of a controls-based corporate program for the worldwide management of high value inventory valued in excess of $15M annually. Effectively collaborated with multiple business units across a highly matrixed environment. Participated in internal audits targeting identification of high-risk products and materials. Developed and launched a worldwide web-based system of record designed to track high-value inventory from initial shipment through processing and payment. Active in driving the discovery, development, and implementation of high value inventory/intellectual property shredder technologies for the protection of IP. Responsible for driving and influencing middle and senior management re: protecting IP, educating stakeholders in black/grey market concerns and complex regulatory import/export and emerging green/sustainability requirements worldwide. Hired to develop and implement environmental compliance management systems and sustaining processes at Intel’s Systems and Assembly/Test manufacturing facilities. Facilitated cross-site teams chartered to build environmental compliance and site awareness via EMS/ISO 14001 criteria. Assisted integration of new environmental staff into Intel’s rapidly expanding manufacturing base across Asia and Central America. Represented Intel’s Asia sites in Intel’s first ever worldwide waste management supplier selection process. Developed and implemented site staff driven “Round Robin” environmental program evaluation at Systems and Assembly/Test facilities. On assignment in Asia for one year responsible for closing 66 environmental compliance action items in 10 months. Traveled extensively in support of environmental program compliance.

Karsten Manufacturing Corporation or PING Golf - Managed 11 environmental and safety Staff direct reports responsible for EHS compliance at a 2,000 employee golf club manufacturing and assembly facility in Phoenix. Heavy emphasis in building responsible hazardous waste management and safety programs designed to transfer accountability for EHS issues to the manufacturing floor and middle management. Provided consulting and compliance oversight for Karsten’s wholly-owned subsidiaries including an investment casting foundry, metals joining (brazing) company, technical powdered coatings company, vacuum furnace heat treating facility, and multiple small business ventures. Primary duties included program management development and laying ground work for building an incident and injury-free safety culture across the corporation. Facilitate routine training in a variety of content areas. Extensive experience in waste management issues at multiple sites, subsurface Superfund/CERCLA investigations, Phase I/II due diligence, government agency negotiations/influencing, EMS and environmental audit development and hands-on people management.

Worked 2 years for the Earth Technology Corporation (Long Beach, CA) and Basin & Range Hydrogeologists. Consulted for a multitude of clients, such as Magma Copper Company and Phelps Dodge to 10-person job-shops. Responsibilities included Phase I/II subsurface investigations, remediations, groundwater monitor well installations, State of Arizona Superfund and Attorney General’s Office investigations, facility compliance audits, and summary report writing.

Responsible for the collection, characterization, segregation, storage, packing, manifesting, and shipping chemical wastes generated by labs, physical plants, and research facilities. Operated an elementary waste water neutralization facility. Partnered closely with waste management suppliers in finding disposal solutions for difficult chemicals. Received hands-on training via EPA Region IX-sponsored courses in personal protective equipment, Industrial Hygiene, use of direct reading instruments, Level A emergency response, and emergency scene management tactics.
