My professional journey began 4 decades ago. I have 41 years of experience in Information Technology (IT) primarily in Data Architecture and Data Base Management of the terabyte variety. I began my career as a computer operator and was promoted to Jr. Programmer, followed by Programmer/Analyst, Journeyman Programmer Analyst and then my ultimate goal - Data Base Administrator (DBA). Eventually, I left that small company to join a Fortune 50 company with large staff of 100 DBA's. I started my career there as Senior DBA Analyst, then was promoted to Senior DBA Specialist, Senior DBA Advisor and finally the top of the food chain - DBA Principal. During this time, I worked on various hardware platforms - mainframes, mid-range computers (servers), to microcomputers (PC). Various operating systems from proprietary to good old LINUX. I have used various languages, most proficiently SQL. I was a design DBA for 4 different DBMS's, becoming an expert in the entire lifecycle from Project Initiation through Production support. This included data modeling (ERD diagrams), database design, building test environments, migrating code into production, then answering wayward calls in the middle of the night. Over the years, the lifecycle evolved from traditional waterfall to Agile, which I eagerly embraced.
