Social Educator And Professional Lead Mentor
Friends Of The Children - San Francisco Chapter
San Francisco Bay Area
Mentoring the same group of children from the age of 6 to 18+. One of the main goals of the program is to provide sustained and stable mentorship to at-risk youth starting in Kindergarten and maintained through their potential acceptance into a college or higher ed learning facility. As Lead Social Educator, I wear many hats. I am an Educator: this role requires me to create tutorials, with an emphasis on study skills; in addition, I teach life skills, personal hygiene, healthy eating habits and basic nutrition, anger management, critical thinking and good judgement, financial and future planning, etc.I am an Education Liaison: this role requires me to support children and their families by referring them to different social service agencies, as well as providing a listening ear and accessible counsel. It also requires a seasoned ability to navigate the often-overwhelming labyrinth of city services and cultivate good relationships with service providers and the families of clients.I am a Positive Role Model: Mediating difficult conflicts, exposing children to various cultural events, taking them on outings, and encouraging social interactions and positive play are all critical aspects of this role.I am an Administrator: Competent and accurate compilation data, as well as thorough research and administrative tracking and monitoring of local and state funding requirements is critical to ensuring that our program maintains a high bar of excellence.I am an Advocate and Development Associate: Given the programs dependence on a strong public-private partnership, I have honed my public speaking and fundraising skills, in order to paint a clear picture of the impact our work is making in the community.
