About Jeffrey Covington

I am currently a Mathematics major at Northern Arizona University with interests in Computer Science and Statistics. I also have side interests in ecology and other natural sciences.I want to pursue a career in mathematics and I am particularly interested in applied mathematics. To accomplish this I want to do undergraduate research and learn as much as possible while I am in college. I want to apply my knowledge of mathematics, computer science, and statistics to solve practical problems.I am an experienced programmer and I have experience with a wide variety of programs and operating systems. Also, I am able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, especially in a learning environment. I am used to collaborating with others to solve problems and I am a fast learner.

    As a Peak Performance Math coach I coached and mentored incoming Freshmen at NAU over the summer. I individually tutored 13 students in an online environment through weekly video-calls and online correspondence. I helped them transition to college and prepared them for mathematics placement exams that they needed for their major.I met with other math coaches and my supervisors in weekly video conferences to develop lesson plans and discuss problems. I documented all of my interactions with my students to personalize their learning experience and to improve the program.
