Mr. Hanes concentrates his practice on civil litigation with an emphasis on defending medical malpractice claims. He has extensive experience in representing physicians, physician groups, hospitals and other healthcare providers in a variety of medical specialties. In addition to his active practice defending claims of professional negligence, Mr. Hanes has successfully represented clients in personal injury actions, premises liability claims, municipal insurance defense, commercial transportation claims and non-commercial auto claims. Mr. Hanes is intimately involved in all aspects of litigation, from pre-suit investigations to presenting arguments before the Illinois Appellate Court. He has obtained numerous favorable verdicts at trial as the lead attorney and successfully represented clients in over 100 arbitrations.Mr. Hanes is admitted to the State Bar of Illinois, as well as the Federal District for the Northern District of Illinois. He is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association. He is also an active arbitrator whereby he assists litigants in resolving disputes across various areas of law including complex personal injury matters, real property claims and breach of contract and employment issues.

Regularly negotiated settlement agreements with opposing counsel and insurance carriers

Worked closely with the chief of the Major Crime Unit in conducting discovery and trial preparation for the high-profile criminal cases involving the death of Kathleen Savio-Peterson and the disappearance of Stacy Peterson.

Researched and drafted briefs on various legal topics including securities laws, international trade laws, UCC transactions, comprehensive analysis of state and federal statutes, court interpretation of statutory provisions, licensing, copyright, trademark, and U.S. and foreign patent laws. Composed contracts used in domestic and international commercial relationships; proposed new contract language to existing form contracts consistent with recent court holdings and statutory changes. Drafted and reviewed patent applications, SEC and ITAR compliance letters, corporate compliance memos, and client letters on diverse topics.
