In addition to my work in fine art photography, I freelance for local newspapers, including the Lamorinda Weekly and the Orinda News, as well as for various organizations and individuals. With a background in photography stretching more than four decades, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Photography from San Francisco State University and studied under painters Robert Bechtle and Paul Pratchenko. But it was my Fine Art Photography studies with Catherine Wagner, Don Worth, Jack Welpott and Melanie Walker, while at State, that truly inspired my work. I went on to produce and exhibit a range of creative work, primarily in black and white.A San Francisco native, I was influenced by the various artistic and photographic trends sweeping the Bay Area. While in high school, I studied photography under Ralph Rappaport, an associate of Ansel Adams. Rappaport, a major influence, who taught me the Zone System and advanced film development and darkroom printing techniques. Rappaport also introduced me to Ruth Bernhard, who met me privately in her home for a critique of my work. This meeting, with one of the world’s definitive photographers, influenced my future work greatly. Lafayette, Calif.

Provide the residents of Lafayette, Calif. (pop. 24,000) a range of public information, including daily and weekly publications, website management, social media posts, public meeting and event notifications, staff reports, legislative updates, emergency alerts, and other key communications. Support City Council and other public meetings, Town Halls, including Zoom webinars and YouTube channel broadcasts. Am spokesperson for the City of Lafayette, responsible for all media relations. Work closely with the local school districts, the Chamber of Commerce, community organizations, and advocacy groups on a range of issues, including policing practices, racial equality, transportation, and housing.

Oakland, Ca

Responsible for all communications and pubic information at the four-college district, one of the largest and most diverse in California. Oversaw an eleven-person department and a $1.7 million annual budget. Supervised all communications functions, including publications, advertising, websites, social media, and graphics. As district spokesperson, oversaw media relations, news releases and press conferences. Manage District’s award-winning television station and established its community radio station. Worked with community partners, including governmental and non-governmental agencies, to develop strategic communications campaigns, some that resulted in a 30% increase in enrollment. Pioneered use of social media in California's community colleges.Developed public information initiatives for successful funding campaigns, including $152 million and $369 million bond measures, both of which received more than 70-percent voter approval. Work closely with foundations on fundraising and building strategic partnerships. Maintain close relationships with local, state, national and international media, education and development colleagues. Established KGPC-LP, 96.9 FM, the district's community radio station in Oakland. Provided consulting services on media, crisis communications and strategic policy issues to government, NGO and corporate clients. Produced specialized strategic analysis and investigative research related to a wide range of policy areas, including media and marketing plans, crisis management and community and media outreach. Consulted on Internet and Web-related initiatives and target-specific efforts. In 1998-99, on behalf of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), managed election programming and operations of Bosnia-Herzegovina’s post-war multi-ethnic national radio network, Radio FERN, on the run up to the country’s first free elections. Served on the Presidential Debate Commission overseeing structure and media issues related to the first presidential debates held in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Served on the Media Development Commission, formed to ensure a fair political media environment, and the Intermediate Media Standardization and Licensing Commission to protect freedom of speech within a fragile political climate. Worked closely with international election monitoring organizations, including OSCE election monitors. Led various inter-ethnic journalists conferences to ensure free and fair election reporting, and worked closely with senior European and US officials, major governmental and non-governmental organizations on political media development.In addition, provided policy development, managed outreach, press conferences and media training. New York, Cambodia, Angola, Former Yugoslavia, Rwanda

Oversaw United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations public information campaigns and media operations for peacekeeping missions in Cambodia (UNTAC), former Yugoslavia (UNPROFOR), Angola (UNAVEM) and Rwanda (UNAMIR). Managed field offices, oversaw 35 local and international staff and multimillion-dollar budgets. Oversaw political programming for Radio UNTAC in Cambodia, the first UN peacekeeping radio station, with 3 million daily listeners, that aided the first elections in the country. As head of United Nations Radio for Former Yugoslavia, produced programming for over 100 local radio stations during the Balkan wars. Designed and established the first UN deployable radio stations for use in Rwanda just after the genocide. Developed specialized election programming and produced various political materials to ensure free and fair elections in Cambodia. Managed Radio UNTAC, the UN’s first elections radio station, which is largely credited with the success of the peacekeeping mission and the Cambodian elections. Worked closely with international election monitoring organizations and United Nations election monitors. Established and oversaw media operations in local languages to further the peace process in Angola, Rwanda and specifically former Yugoslavia, countering hate media. Held political negotiations concerning media and broadcast issues with government officials, media representatives and local and international organizations. Developed policy for the Security Council and drafted policy-setting language for Security Council Resolutions and other high-level policy matters. Acted as deputy spokesperson during crisis situations, issuing press statements and conducting press conferences with major media including CNN, BBC, RFI, Reuters, Associated Press, The New York Times, Washington Post and others. Accomplishments recognized by Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General, then head of peacekeeping operations.

Greater New York City Area

Directed a wide range of corporate security and investigative matters involving risk assessment, litigation support and crisis management for major private sector and governmental clients. Worked closely with current and former intelligence and law enforcement officials. Analyzed political conflict and threat and undertook extensive field assignments in the Americas, Europe and Africa. Played key roles in matters that gained worldwide publicity, including an investigation for the Russian government to locate billions of dollars in missing assets, a lengthy inquiry supporting the largest libel action in Canadian legal history, and investigations on behalf of the Kuwaiti government related to Iraq's arms procurement network and the financial holdings of Saddam Hussein. Worked closely with major media such as the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, National Public Radio and the CBS News program “60 Minutes.”

San Francisco Bay Area

Responsible for all aspects of complex litigation support, trial preparation and large case management. Coordinated depositions and demonstrative evidence production. Considerable experience in legal research, witness preparation and the analysis and organization of documents. Assisted in the establishment of the firm's litigation department in New York, overseeing the implementation of computer information-gathering capabilities and other research-related measures.
