I am responsible for teaching Principles of Sociology and Social Problems, and an introductory Law Enforcement class to high school students in a dual-credit program. Students are able to earn college credits while they are still in high school. I am also involved with East Allen University's after-school programs.

This job presents many opportunities to work with diverse students who are learning a wide variety of subjects at different grade levels.

Ivy Tech has been offering Supplemental Instruction for years, but this is the first time it has been available to an "emporium" style class. During class, students use computers to work through math problems, quizzes and tests at their own individual paces. My role in the emporium is to answer students' questions in ways that will help them to learn to solve algebra problems on their own. My responsibilities also include preparing activities for two Supplemental Instruction sessions each week, in which students work together outside of a computer lab. During these sessions, students participate in games and activities involving the mathematics that they are currently studying. This way, students are also able to learn from each other as they practice solving problems in groups.
