As a Senior Software Engineer, I work on a team developing cloud applications that connect IoT devices. I work as a backend software engineer developing the tech stack. This role represented the third and fourth rotation as part of the Edison Engineering Development program with GE Transportation. I performed two back to back rotation on the same team developing the same types of projects. In this role I enhanced my full stack web development skills by working with a team that developed POCs for the business. In developing these applications, I've become familiar with more front end technology as well as with the use of Cloud Foundry and cloud applications. - Using Python, Flask, and Predix to create a video streaming system to display recorded and live video captured from a locomotive- Developing front end with Polymer and custom JavaScript to accomplish video loading and playlist construction, as well as admin features- Utilizing Amazon cloud services S3 for blob storage and PostgreSQL for relational information about the videos collected by the locomotive- Utilizing Predix cloud platform and development knowledge to create a rail defect visualization application to locate and help identify rail defects and route issues- Develop, own and maintain an open source Python/Flask starter application for out of the box Python Predix development for the Predix community- Developing training surrounding the use Predix tools to assist other engineers and supplement current Predix documentation- Developing a rail defect tracker application using Python Flask and Predix components to display troubled assets and conditions along railroad installations

The Edison Engineering Development Program is a leadership training program within General Electric as a whole. The intent of the program is to develop the next leaders of the business by making them excellent engineers. The goal of the program is to help provide deep domain knowledge. While in this program, I was on the software engineering Edison track. In this program I rotated around to 4 rotations thus enhancing my knowledge of software by tackling several different projects using several different technology stacks. As a software engineer, I followed both an A course and B course track for this program. A course classes focused on software development tools, processes, technologies, and system thinking. B course classes focused on mechanical and electrical engineering within my business unit of Transportation; in particular Locomotive system design and underground mining system design. This is my second rotation as part of the GE Edison Engineering Program. The focus of this rotation was that of around trying to update 20+ year old locomotive software. The goal of this rotation was to analyze and provide insight into the way in which GE can break apart the locomotive control software, provide a more segregated microservice based software solution, and provide the framework for full automation and testing.- Responsible for designing and implementing a new software user interface system to accommodate new hardware that has been developed. - Responsible for training software teams in the use of Git / GitHub from the version control software Perforce- Developed training curriculum, material, and documentation to assist in training of Git / GitHub- Owned and maintained the Git repositories for the team through the development cycle- Designed Python scripts to assist in the migration of data from one architected platform to another- Architected a new platform design for the locomotive control software to be less coupled and dependent of other code

While in this rotation I worked for GE Transportation as a software engineering developing low level C/C++ code that was compiled into the control software for locomotives primarily in the United States / North America. In addition to that, I touched several non-North American locomotive software baselines and releases. In this role, I was responsible for baselines, or software code that bundled up underneath a particular customer, purchase request, or project.- Responsible for maintaining numerous locomotive control software baselines for US based locomotives- Designed the changes to the C/C++ code that were required to enhance the software and meet system and subsystem engineers design needs- Implemented the C/C++ software changes required and co-designed with other team members- Tested compiled software code to ensure desired operation of code on hardware- Ensured sanity tests passed all changes that might have been included by other software engineers using Perforce as the version control software.- Logged bugs in my code baseline as well as other code baselines.- Corrected bugs associated with my baselines as well as other baselines- Released software to customer after QA teams verified proper system operations
