As a Mechanical Estimator, I am responsible for providing a wide range of support to A/Z’s Mechanical Division. I produce detailed estimates and proposals for competitive lump sum bidding . In addition, A/Z’s specialization in design/build services means that I am often involved with many projects at their genesis. I develop conceptual estimates at this stage of the project based on a basis of design to support the initial budget stage. As the budgeting and design evolution moves forward, my role shifts to Value Engineering, and finally towards the development of Guaranteed Maximum Pricing (GMP). Another aspect of my position is to support the Construction Management Division. As our clients’ representative, it is our responsibility to ensure due diligence. My role in this is to develop side-by-side comparison estimates to ensure subcontractor pricing is in-line. This process is performed during both the bidding stage and the construction if and when a subcontractor change order is submitted.
