    Solution/Technical Architect
    Boeing 1999 - 2020
Led the development of DCAC-PDM, one of the world’s largest PLM implementations, customizing a COTS product (adding ~500 classes and ~2.5M lines of code), deploying across 3 channels (Unix-hosted application, thin client, and website), with 30,000 users. Integrated with Sales, Manufacturing and ERP systems, replacing hundreds of legacy systems, in a multi-year phased deployment. Oversaw 20 developers and leads on-site, plus an offshore team.Worked with Product Owners, Project Managers and Release Management on capacity planning and scheduling (for the above project). The team typically delivered 2 to 3 major blockpoints per year, always on time, and with no “Sev 0” defects.Personally designed and oversaw the development of the airplane configuration engine for Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA). It converts each customer’s airplane options into fully-defined Engineering and Manufacturing airplane definitions, updating them multiple times daily, to account for design changes, schedule constraints, current build status, rework, requested overrides, etc. The engine has fully automated the configuration process, providing Configuration Lifecycle Management for every Boeing 737, 747, 767 and 777. Declared a “Competitive Advantage” by BCA, the engine was a key enabler in increasing 737 production from 28 to 52 airplanes per month.Often the UI/UX Focal and Security Focal, overseeing reviews to ensure all changes maintained compliance with appropriate system, corporate and industry standards.Collaborated with the application support group to significantly reduce user tickets. Major issues were identified, root causes determined, and solutions developed - typically either eliminating the cause, or giving users the ability to address the issue themselves. This initiative reduced the quantity of tickets by 96% (from ~900 per month to ~30 per month). Show less

Personally responsible for assessing and integrating those requirements, to define/extend the architecture of a new, customized Product Data Management system that would support those new processes.Member of the ETIB (Enterprise Architecture Technical Integration Board), ensuring the successful integration of the next generation of enterprise-wide IT systems, while satisfying both business and IT Program Management requirements. Critical to this has been analyzing future Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) capabilities, gap identification, and developing gap mitigation plans.Member of the BC2020 (Business Capabilities 2020) Product Structure Team, creating the detailed product structure for the platform that encompasses the next generation of Boeing IT systems supporting the product design lifecycle.Performed architecture assessments of projects in various stages of development, in support of IT Program Management and Enterprise Architecture. Reviewed system context, scope, business value, functional and non-functional requirements, and various other aspects and artifacts. Show less

This eliminated a significant source of change requests, and allowed for immediate incorporation of business changes by authorized users.Encapsulated reusable and configurable behaviors into a collection of class constants, controlling “deep copy” behavior, defining state machines, etc. These constants provide consistency across the application, reducing development time, and simplifying maintenance.Customized a data modeling tool, generating ~10,000 lines of “skeleton” code that initiated project development.Redesigned a web-based reporting tool that had been a collection of dozens of HTML forms. Added persistent authentication, navigation hierarchy and breadcrumbs, branding, accessibility, tooltips, liquid layout, CSS, and the ability to query the cache of completed reports.Designed and led the implementation of SILICA, an automated knowledge acquisition tool for scheduling tasks. The knowledge acquisition front-end collected the scheduling knowledge from a domain expert, then the automated code generator created the expert system. It was deployed to schedule flight simulators, a highly-constrained, high-demand resource that had relied on overworked human experts.Owned the Coding Standards and UI/UX Standards on multiple projects, enabling consistency across channels, increasing productivity and quality for both users and developers, and ensuring conformance with various technology standards and guidelines.
