About Jeffrey Wayne Case
I live by the Anselmian motto, "Fides quaerens intellectum." This quest for understanding led me first to follow Patristic authors' citations to their Platonic and Aristotelian sources as an independent study, and then to the pursuit of philosophy academically when I discovered the fascinating work local philosophers were accomplishing at Saint Louis University. This discovery began with Eleonore Stump's fascinating work on the problem of evil, which was my focus for the first several years of my philosophical education, and remains a strong interest. Having been introduced to Thomas Aquinas by her work, I discovered a compelling explanatory account of the ills of the contemporary world in the work of Alasdair MacIntyre, which shifted my focus from analytic to historical Thomism and its relationship to culture. In pursuit of a better account of culture than I was finding in MacIntyre, I discovered one in the neglected Aristotelian-Thomist critical works of T.S. Eliot, a project that fruitfully culminated in my dissertation. I have been leading students in the pursuit of wisdom in the classrooms of local colleges and universities for the last eighteen years, as well as online for the past five.
