Before retirement, I led Vorys' Cincinnati office's bankruptcy and creditors' rights practice with more than 40 years of experience in bankruptcy and insolvency law. My insolvency practice focused on Chapter 11 reorganizations and other commercial bankruptcy proceedings and litigation; creditors’ and debtors’ rights, including receiverships; and out of court workouts and restructurings. I also counseled clients involved in secured lending and related workout arrangements, with emphasis in personal property/asset based lending activities, including senior secured, mezzanine, first/second lien and unitranche financings, and regularly negotiated and documented intercreditor and subordination agreements.I presented on numerous bankruptcy and insolvency related topics, including presentations at the ABI's Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar and its Central States Bankruptcy Workshop, the Southern District of Ohio Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference, the University of Cincinnati College of Law – Institute for the Global Practice of Law, the Columbus Bar Association and the Capital University Law School Graduate Program.I authored or co-authored articles in Vorys' Bankers' Statement, including on restructuring case law developments and Article 9 sales of going concern businesses. I also principally authored Vorys' Analysis of Ohio's Amended Receivership Law. In addition, I authored a chapter for Inside the Minds: Creditors’ Rights in Chapter 11 Cases – Leading Lawyers on Representing and Enforcing the Rights of Creditors in Bankruptcy Matters (2013 edition; Aspatore Law Books, Thompson Reuters). Best Lawyers in America named me the 2019 Best Lawyers’ Cincinnati Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law Lawyer of the Year, and I was selected multiple times for recognition by Chambers and Partners, Ohio Super Lawyer and Best Lawyers in America.
