Flatiron School was a chance for me to help other people achieve the type of success I had learning to program. While there, I participated in training and mentoring 32 new Ruby developers, worked on improving internal processes, debugged lots of buggy student code, and built coding exercises for students to work on.

Medivo is a disease management company. In addition to daily maintenance of a production Ruby on Rails app , I designed an API for our print vendors, built out internal tracking tools, cut our on-boarding process from two days to 30 minutes with Github's Boxen, and worked on scaling our applications using service oriented architecture.In the community, I spoke at Ruby Hoedown, participated in a Junior Development Panel and ran Code Retreat for NYC.

The idea of Kngroo (originally called CityQuest) was hatched over coffee the Thursday before StartUp Weekend Tampa. After a furious 54 hours of programming and development we had a game changing application. We tied for first at StartUp Weekend and were shortly picked up by the Gazelle Lab, a TechStars Network incubator.

2007 -2008Mastered the controls for all of the internal ramp systems for the Ro/Ro within the first week. Halfway through my four month trip, the ship went through a crew change leaving me the only remaining member of the original deck crew. As a result I took charge of familiarizing the deck department, including the captain, with the day-to-day operations of the vessel. The new captain put me in charge of the ship's store, completing inventory, organizing the displays, charging the crew's accounts for their purchases and ordering new products. While unloading cargo in the Middle East, the Chief Mate put me in charge of the cargo discharge, which included communicating with stevedore bosses, often with a considerable language barrier. Other responsibilities I took on were taking lead on the stern during docking and undocking procedures and taking the "con" for four hours a day.
