Currently, I am a Machine Learning Engineer with 3 years of experience researching and applying AI to problems in computer vision. I have two first-author publications in high-impact medical journals about making deep learning models more generalizable for medical image analysis and cancer diagnosis, and multiple awards for my research and presentation-skills. My goal is to work on technically challenging projects that provide tangible benefits to society, and I’m excited to see what problems I get to tackle in the next steps of my career! Even though I have always been fascinated by computers, it somehow did not occur to me to make this into a career until graduate school. During my bachelor’s in chemical and biological engineering, I treated programming as a hobby - taking online courses about Linux and dabbling in Python just because it was fun to learn about how things worked. However, everything changed when I started my master’s in biomedical engineering and a professor talked about his research applying deep learning to medical diagnoses. I was blown away by the complex field of AI with its seemingly endless practical applications and decided to dive right in.
