About Jeffrey Brookner

My mission is to help businesses and their owners solve problems or, better yet, avoid problems in the first place. Whether you are embroiled in a lawsuit, buying or selling a business, bringing on investors, borrowing money, negotiating a contract, working on estate or succession planning, facing burdensome administrative regulations, or simply seeking advice on how to handle a difficult situation, I am here to help.For 15 years, I worked at three large law firms handling commercial litigation matters, including banking, franchise, real estate, legal and accounting malpractice, business dissolution, consumer class-action defense, estates and trusts, and many other areas. This background exposed me to a wide array of business issues and helped me learn how to keep problems from spiraling out of control.In December 2009, I brought my experience home to the Somerset County community where I live and play. My office is on Route 22 in Bridgewater, 3 minutes from downtown Somerville and 5 minutes from my home. Over the past five years, I have handled a broad variety of matters. I have represented individuals who were forming, purchasing, or selling businesses, or bringing on new partners. I have helped companies refinance their debts or secure other forms of financing. I have counseled both companies and individuals regarding employment relationships. I have drafted wills and related documents, and have helped individuals resolve disputes in that arena. This, and much more.Meanwhile, I have continued my litigation practice. My philosophy is that litigation is a necessary evil. Evil, because it is expensive and burdensome, diverting both capital and manpower away from a litigant's core mission. Necessary, because without litigation (or the threat of litigation), it can often be difficult to protect what is rightfully yours. Forgetting that litigation is necessary can make you a pushover, but forgetting that litigation is evil often proves to be foolhardy.
