About Jeffrey Butts

Jeffrey A. Butts (Ph.D., University of Michigan), Research Professor and Director of the Research and Evaluation Center at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a campus of the City University of New York. My work focuses on program evaluation, policy analysis, and research design. During my research career, I have developed and managed projects with budgets totaling $56 Million ($74M in 2024 dollars), including $48 Million since joining John Jay College in 2010. From 2005 to 2009, I was a research fellow with Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, and from 1997 to 2005 director of the Program on Youth Justice at the Urban Institute in Washington, DC.
