My commercial audit expertise focuses upon four distinct industries within the privately - owned company context: 1) professional service firms including; law firms, architects & engineering firms, strategic consulting firms and defense industry consulting firms; 2) technology companies encompassing software, hardware, SaaS revenue models, and "low-tech"; 3) publishing companies and; 4) manufacturing companies which operate in a variety of markets. Additionally, I have extensive expertise with benefit plan audits: 401(k), 403(b), defined benefit plans, and profit sharing plans.My skills are focused upon closely-held, privately-owned and family owned businesses. I believe that understanding the needs and wants of "private companies" is itself, an expertise that is often overlooked, under appreciated and very often "under-serviced." Privately owned companies typically have goals and objectives coupled with strategies which are vastly different than that of much larger (often publicly owned) company management. Being a practitioner who understands these characteristics is critical in bringing a value added, "trusted advisor" culture to the business relationship. Further, when the family owned or family run dynamic is introduced to the operations of an enterprise, the ability to bring value becomes even more specialized and challenging.In addition to assurance services, my specialties throughout my public accounting career include strategic consulting in the areas of revenue recognition, particularly with software companies; ownership transition challenges with respect to both an external sales and that of an internal transition. I provide strategy focused upon maximizing shareholder value coupled with very strong creative problem solving skills. I prefer to use the audit process as a fulcrum point to leverage opportunities and to provide high-value, creative services to my clients.
