I was responsible for broadening the global reach of The Rational Group (including PokerStars & FullTiltPoker) through new products, distribution and marketing channels. My focus was on US-based App Stores and social media companies, as well as European & Asian TelCos. I established relationships with key platforms such as Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, VKontakte, Samsung, Telefonica, VimpelCom & others. I educated their internal stakeholders on our products, operations and compliance with global gaming regulations. This resulted in new product distribution agreements, and significant growth of social and mobile audiences.

  • Pokerstars
    Managing Director, Pokerstars Live
    Pokerstars Jan 2009 - Dec 2011
    Dublin, Ie
Created the global live gaming strategy for PokerStars, and executed it with both operational and P&L responsibilities during a 3-year period of rapid growth. Central to this was Global Poker Tours Ltd (GPTL), a full service poker tour production company I founded to develop, organize and produce many of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world. My team produced more poker events in more countries than any other company on the planet - establishing GPTL as the market leader. As Managing Director of GPTL, I led the creation and evolution of more than 10 leading poker tours and dozens of special events across almost 50 jurisdictions (including places like Egypt, Morocco, Monaco, Argentina, Peru, Ireland, Bahamas, USA and Estonia), and 1 permanent poker room in Macau (China). I worked with governments, gaming regulators, tax authorities, casinos and police to develop frameworks for successfully planning, promoting and producing world-class televised poker tournaments and festivals around the world. I developed the concept of “poker tourism” to the benefit of many economies, redefined 'Poker Festivals', diversified live gaming markets, grew local poker communities, and delivered a broad range of distributed benefits to everyone involved in our events. This was all done with strict observance to legal nuances and complex compliance issues as I was personally licensed by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).With full P&L responsibility, I worked with my team to manage costs and develop new revenue streams in-line with aggressive forecasts. This was done through sponsorships & smarter partnerships while keeping a macro-economic view towards optimize online/offline gaming ecology symbiosis.
  • Pokerstars
Director Of Business Development, Asia Pacific
    Pokerstars Dec 2006 - Aug 2009
    Dublin, Ie
I was PokerStars' first hire for Asia. I was asked by the CEO to open the Asian market and grow the nascent ANZ market. Aggressive geographic diversification was an existential hedge for the business, as I started shortly following the UIGEA in the USA. I developed the strategy for APAC, opened offices in Macau & Sydney, hired the teams and led the operation. This required business development and relationship building across numerous countries and cultures. Fundamentally, the result was the establishment of Texas Hold'em poker as a recreational card game in Asia - with PokerStars' brand and products at its core.
  • Asia Pacific Poker Tour
    President
Asia Pacific Poker Tour Dec 2006 - Aug 2010
As President of the APPT (the first series of poker tournaments ever produced in Asia Pacific), I worked with governments, gaming regulators, tax authorities and casinos to develop frameworks for successfully planning, promoting and producing world-class televised poker events. My goal was to diversify gaming markets, encourage international tourism and deliver broad distributed benefits to everyone involved in our events, while also bringing the most exciting poker games to Asia. The APPT successfully introduced international tournament poker to Macau, Korea and Philippines with the first major events to be held in these countries - and they were all televised! We also produced the largest poker tournaments ever held in Sydney, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand - setting records for player numbers and prize pools.I also founded 'PokerStars Macau', the first dedicated poker room in the People's Republic of China. That required resolving numerous corporate, commercial, regulatory, compliance and taxation issues as well as some technical product management in respect to an integrated online/offline poker product.
