As part of the Zhou laboratory, I worked on a project in which I characterized the role of a ubiquitin ligase protein in AML cells' sensitivity to the chemotherapeutic agent cytarabine.

Under the supervision of my mentor Pengbo Zhou, I participated in a number of projects including: characterizing the role of the CRL4 ubiquitin ligase complex in UV-induced DNA damage and skin carcinogenesis, investigating correlations between upregulation of Axl receptor tyrosine kinase expression in triple-negative breast cancer and lymphovascular invasion, and utilizing chimeric E3 ubiquitin ligase constructs to target long-lived cellular proteins such as Retinoblastoma protein and members of the EGFR family. My main project centered on finding and characterizing genes which affect AML cells' sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents.

I worked for Yongwon Choi, who is a proponent of osteoimmunology- a field situated at the intersection of immunology and bone biology. Although I was a technician, I also worked on a few research projects. In particular, I worked on TRAF6 (a key signaling factor in both TLR and TCR signaling in T-cells) and its role in T-cell anergy.

I worked for Alvin Chin, who researches developmental heart defects in zebrafish. During my time there, I primarily researched SOX4A and SOX4B, transcription regulators that are widely expressed in early development. I also investigated TBX1, another transcription regulator, a number of HDAC (histone deacetylase) genes, and "lonely atrium" mutants, which have lethal defects in heart chamber formation.

I also did an independent study project where I investigated the potential effect(s) of an insertion mutation in the PTP1B gene, which encodes a phosphatase that regulates insulin sensitivity.
