I am the Chief Medical Officer at Hinge Health, a digital health company reimagining health care to help people move beyond pain. I am also a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) staff physician at the Palo Alto VA (board certified in PM&R and Lifestyle Medicine) and Clinical Assistant Professor (affiliated) at Stanford University. I previously spent 8 yrs in product management and strategy at eBay and Oracle. My passion lies at the intersection of digital health, lifestyle medicine and PM&R.After graduating from Harvard University in 1997, I worked at Oracle as a product manager until early 1999, at which time I joined Billpoint, an online payments startup acquired by eBay. During 6 years as a product manager at eBay, I focused on payments & shipping features, including the integration with PayPal, and was a founding member of eBay's Product Strategy team, focusing on strategy, innovation, and product research. In 2004, I changed career direction and pursued a dream of becoming a physician. I completed pre-medical studies at Mills College in Oakland, volunteered at SF General Hospital ED & the Mission Neighborhood Health Center, and spent 2 months studying Spanish in Guatemala. I attended UC San Francisco Medical School from 2007 to 2012, where I was the co-director of the 2008 UCSF Integrative Medicine Forum, the project director of the "Know Your Telomeres" study in the labs of Elissa Epel, PhD and Elizabeth Blackburn, PhD, and first author of a paper on the relationship of telomeres and physical fitness. I completed my intern year in Internal Medicine at Harbor UCLA and then residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Stanford University from 2013-2016. Following residency, I worked as full-time Staff Physician at the VA Palo Alto where I did research investigating the role of lifestyle medicine and digital health in the rehabilitation of neurological (e.g. stroke, spinal cord injury) and orthopedic conditions.In 2015 I was invited by my former eBay colleagues to join Omidyar Network as the part-time Medical Advisor for a venture capital fund within Omidyar Network (now Spero Ventures). Evaluating Seed and Series A startups opened my eyes to the amazing potential within digital health and eventually led me to join Hinge Health, where I have served as the Chief Medical Officer since 2018.
