RTI powers the real-time experiences behind Newsfeed, Live Videos, Messenger, Instagram, and other products.Under my leadership, the system went from a collection of hodge-podge systems into a unified "containerize JavaScript streaming compute platform".We own the entire stack of this massive distributed system with pub/sub primitives that connect javascript containers together. We own the highly specialized container orchestration, manage deployments, stream centric traffic routing and shaping, a new and fancy streaming protocol, operational control plane to have precise control over the virtual machines, and more. It's a beautiful thing.The problems we face are how to cheaply provide real-time for the long-tail of small-scale experiences that can instantly (and sometimes without warning), scale to world-wide events like solar eclipses and presidential debate.The scope of our scale is practically everyone.

As a leader, I designed a JavaScript tool chain to operate S3's internals. This tool chain allowed flexible operations. Furthermore, I designed and built a new test platform for writing reliable acceptance tests that ran continuously and en mass to drive quality of the service.I also worked in the space of gossip networks building on the work from the paper https://www.cs.cornell.edu/home/rvr/papers/GossipFD.pdf to detect failures. I extended ideas from the paper to handle in-rack propagation to reduce gossip times by half.

I worked on Amazon's S3 Web Service and worked as an individual contributor on efforts to ship server side encryption (i.e. protect customer's data from hard disks leaving data centers), object expiration via lifecycle management (i.e. delete data on behalf of customers), glacier archival (i.e. transition data from warm storage to cold storage for archiving).As a leader, I designed and shipped cors support (i.e. how to use S3 via a web browser), website redirects (i.e. how to build an SEO friendly website), and website routing rules and root domain support (i.e. how to actually use S3 as a redirect service to support SEO).

I wrote a tutoring software package around my computer algebra system ( https://github.com/mathgladiator/tutor ), and then I offered students the ability to use it to help them with their homework.It was designed to be given exam-level questions and spit out detailed professor-generated answers with all work shown. It was applicable to College Algebra, Calculus I, and Calculus II students.

I wrote a crawler and predictive intelligence to take daily stances on a stock portfolio (buy, sell, short). I think I might as well have thrown darts. I want to return to this using multiple agents and data mining since people are fundamentally predictable.

I wrote a P2P engine that was multi-threaded and multi-client; it could download from multiple clients concurrently and max out the local computers bandwidth. It did a weighted round robin between multiple clients to download multiple chunks of a file from multiple peers as fairly as possible. It enabled peers to throttle upload and download speed.
