With the support of the Bullitt Foundation, the UW Green Futures Lab (GFL) is developing a Regional Open Space Strategy (ROSS). Through a process of working together with local and regional partners and stakeholders, the ROSS identifies measures to conserve and enhance open space systems that contribute to the ecological, economic, recreational and aesthetic vitality of the Central Puget Sound region.

Provided technical support to local jurisdictions in adjusting land use and transportation policies and programs to promote physical activity. This work culminated in the development of an Active Community Guidebook. The position also involved research to identify how to integrate health metrics into the transportation project selection process for the Regional Council.

Conducting research & policy development to support the Quality Growth Alliance TOD Initiative. Coordination with developers, city planners, transit operators, and regional authorities to facilitate best practices in transit-oriented development around proposed transit facilities. Evaluation of supportive regulatory & financial mechanisms, public outreach efforts, and other associated measures.

Facilitated the development of a regional economic strategy to support five industry sectors. Recruited regional leadership and aided the development of workforce training, marketing strategies and other initiatives for life sciences sector. Supported regional arts and culture taskforce to create a legislative cultural funding district. Integrated economic development criteria into regional project selection process, working with local and federal partners to prioritize projects for federal funding through US FTA, FHWA, and the EDA.

Development of an economic background report and policy recommendations for the update of a Metropolitan Transportation Plan for Puget Sound region (Destination 2030). The completion of a Park & Ride inventory, participation in a project evaluating multimodal concurrency strategies, and the development of tools to evaluate needs in demand response transportation.

Completion of the 2004 Central Puget Sound High Capacity Transit Corridor Assessment, gathering and analyzing land use and travel information in order to provide assistance to a regional transit authority for long range high capacity transit planning. Organized a tour for an independent technical review committee assigned to evaluate different transit technology options within the region. Compared the organizational structure, funding sources, and strategies of different economic development organizations to advance the update of the Central Puget Sound Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. Preliminary report on the economic benefits associated with the implementation of a high capacity transit system in the region.

Oversight on the review and certification of the transportation elements of local comprehensive plans for consistency with state law and regional policy. Developed formal reports based on this review that were presented to policy board members for consideration and action. Participated in an assessment of regional growth center development as part of best practices manual. Led research on rural character and policy and developed a report presented to a policy board.
