As the person who spearheads the communications efforts at ODVS, I am responsible for all messaging for our statewide department. I am in charge of all social media posts, external and internal communications, remarks and scripts for representatives of our department, and have oversight of all press releases, advisories, pictures, videos, graphic displays and everything else that conveys ODVS's vision and mission.I also handle media requests, travel with the Director, help organize and attend events all over the state that involve veterans. Another key task is to maintain inter-agency coordination and interaction with the press. I serve as supervisor to our Public Information Officer, Graphic Communication Coordinator and Events Coordinator, and work closely with the Executive Assistant to the Director.ODVS advocates for Ohio veterans and their families, promotes programs for military members past and present, raises public awareness of the many services for veterans and more. We collaborate with other state offices and follow the leadership of the Governor of Ohio. In fact, our Director serves as a state cabinet member.

As a member of the ODVS communications staff, I wrote remarks and scripts for representatives of our department, produced press releases and newsletter content, handled media requests, traveled with the Director, helped organize and attend events all over the state that involve veterans, and crafted social media messages.Also, I assisted our deputy director for communications in many capacities. In fact, I have served as the department's acting communications director on three different occasions, which means I was responsible for oversight of all messaging and branding, social media, inter-agency coordination and interaction with the press. In either the comms director or PIO role, I often coordinated efforts with our Events Coordinator, Graphic Designer and the Director's Executive Assistant as well as serve as point person for communicating with staff members at our Ohio Veterans Homes.
