The platform team at Digital Domain is developing cutting edge virtual reality technology to enable unique content creation both for clients as well as our internal creative studio. The team is fully distributed with developers primarily on the west coast of the U.S.I am a hands-on technical director for platform and mobile application development both in house and custom client.▪ Work closely with clients on a wide array of projects including VR Lounges, 360 video playback, social VR, and full volumetric streaming.▪ Actively involved in the design of features for the cloud-based Content Management System which provides dynamic VR content, ads, and assets for apps. Bridged cultures and languages to start and grow a development team of a highly energetic and very sharp engineers based in Shanghai China. Utilizing an Agile / Scrum approach, we built an Application Performance Monitoring (APM) solution to identify and proactively alert customers to potential issues in their business critical distributed enterprise software infrastructure. Designed for the SAAS platform within the Oracle Public Cloud, the solution is required to and therefore capable of supporting enormous scale. I am a technically capable director and while at Oracle was responsible for a large team whose work experience ranged from senior developers to college hires. I'm well versed in enterprise software technologies from mobile platforms (iOS / Android) through web tiers, and J2EE/application servers to the DBMS. I have hard-earned experience managing multiple concurrent projects and project teams across many timezones.In addition to managing I was hands-on with technical projects. I enjoy digging into designs and decision points. I did a fair amount of triage on customer and cloud service issues thereby helping my developers stay focused. I picked up loose ends on projects: wrote code or tests or wrestled the Oracle release process to the ground.Initially, concurrent with managing, I led development for projects focused on improving the performance and scalability of transaction tracing within the Oracle / AmberPoint Business Transaction Management product -- the precursor to our current APM product.

Led the design / development effort for the Business Transaction Monitoring product at AmberPoint. Worked with a small / nimble team to turn marketing requirements into a production ready product. The AmberPoint system evolved from Web Services management to distributed application monitoring covering a wide variety of enterprise software technologies. The transaction monitoring piece discovered distributed business application flows and automatically reconstructed transaction instances enabling diagnosis of performance and functional issues across the distributed environment.

▪ Designed and developed multi-threaded distributed SQL query execution engine.▪ Developed eBusiness catalog management application on top of the distributed query engine.I was a founding employee of the company that grew out of Dr. Michael Stonebraker’s Mariposa distributed database research at U.C. Berkeley. We repurposed our engine for eCommerce catalogmanagement with suppliers acting as distributed data sources. The company was purchased byPeopleSoft.

The database for cyberspace.Commercialized the Postgres database research project producing an industrial strength next generation extensible data management system▪ Designed / developed the backup and restore functionality and a roll-forward crash recovery logFounding employee staying with the company through its acquisition by Informix. Worked on the database system at Informix for two years focusing on enabling Java based DBMS plug-ins.
