This was a joint venture to develop new innovation Internet technologies that could be commercialised in the global market. Managed assets in excess of $100million, created a joint venture involving over 20 corporate and institutional partners including Telstra, Westpac, Hewlett-Packard, and Motorola, ten universities and three Australian governments (the Commonwealth plus two state governments). Formulated investment strategy for innovation, and successfully secured investment from Westpac Banking Corporation ($1.2million) and Novell ($1.2million). Established international links with Boeing, Apple research labs, Microsoft research labs, MIT Media Labs and SRI.

General ManagerIba Ehealth Division Jan 2001 - Jan 2003Louvain-La-Neuve, BeJoined IBA as General Manager, eHealth. IBA Health provides software solutions to hospitals and health groups. The eHealth division of IBA was a B2B eCommerce group providing connectivity between health communities across Australia, most notably between General Practitioners and the Health Insurance Commission (Medicare), but in the first four months of employment was successful in turning the business around. Business was losing in excess of $3.6m per annum, but by Feb 2001 business was making monthly profit of $170,000. The business continues to make profits every month – to $1.5million p/a.The role at IBA was to develop a strategy to integrate the newly acquired Optus Health Solutions in IBA. This required a new strategy, and was basically a turnaround of a loss making business into a profitable one.I formulated the strategy, and implemented it. -
Chairman And CeoDataflow Computer Services Jan 1983 - May 2000Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Dataflow Computer Services from 1983-2000. Dataflow Computer Services was Australia’s and New Zealand’s premier distributor of software and peripherals. Dr Tobias grew Dataflow from $0 to a business of approx. $90million in revenue, with staff of over 120 people in six offices in Australia and New Zealand. Dataflow focused on excellent customer services, a strong internal culture and the development of long-term partnerships with companies such as Microsoft, Symantec, Apple Computer, Logitech, Macromedia and Disney. Through strong leadership and focus, Dataflow was the major supplier to approx 85% of the retail and education software market in Australia.

Director Of ResearchAnsto Jan 1975 - Jan 1980Lucas Heights, New South Wales, AuCompleted Ph.D thesis at AAEC, researching and developing the strategy and implementation of a multiprocessor personal computer. Designed and built a multiprocessor desktop computer using a dialect of Modula-2. This was a major innovation for the times.Designed and developed the only real industry strength version of Pascal that would run on an IBM mainframe. This research was carried out in conjunction with the Computer Science Department of the University of Tokyo, and with the collaboration of Niklaus Wirth (of ETH, Switzerland, the original designer of the Pascal programming language). Again, a major innovation.Conceived the idea of holding an international conference on Language Design and Programming Methodology, and organised this conference. Niklaus Wirth flew from Switzerland specifically to attend and deliver the keynote. The Proceedings of this conference were published by Springer Verlag as Volume 79 in their Lecture Notes in Computer Science series, Jeffrey Tobias being acknowledged as Conference Chairman
