On the basis of what I had previously done with experiential education in Berkeley and Toronto, I went into high gear with project-centered courses. Holistic personal growth. I selected from the readings a widely appealing teaching. The students would modify it (make us more or less or differently secular or religious) until they felt good about applying it--if it was wise to do so--to the number one, front-burner challenge in their lives. They would relate their experience reports to the material being studied. Roughly two-thirds had transformative experiences.

Taught all the courses in the English program, including Public Speaking and Business Writing; a four-course series in the humanities from the 17th-20th centuries covering literature, art, music, philosophy, and religion; world history, American history; business case analysis; psychology. It was a very small international school, with many from Japan, the Middle East, West Africa, some from Europe and South America, and 20% from the U.S.A. Met the Japanese literature whiz who would become my wife.
