Operator I
The System Operator coordinates the day-to-day operations and functionality performed by Southwest Power Pool to efficiently and reliably operate an energy imbalance market across a 7-state regional bulk electric transmission grid. Duties include but are not limited to ensuring continuous administration of the energy imbalance market, ensuring market participants comply with applicable Market Protocols in real-time, assisting with the Reliability Coordination process in support of established congestion management process, assisting in the development and maintenance of the market protocols and systems needed to facilitate the markets, assessing and reporting compliance with SPP Criteria and NERC Policies and providing 24-hour, 7-day per week point of contact for market participants.As an Operator in Training I supported operations personal in day to day activities while working a rotating shift. Learning business practices and procedures of Southwest Power Pool to insure the reliability and safety of the bulk electric system under the supervision of the mentoring operator on the tariff and scheduling desks. Required to attend two (2) semesters of Bismarck State College and the SOS University with the goal of obtaining the NERC certification in Reliability Coordination.
Rf Engineer
The Engineer – RF is responsible for contributing to the RF Design of the regional cellular network. Responsibilities include: • Creating search areas within geographic area of responsibility • Preparing FCC submissions in a timely manner • Performing radio engineering evaluation for system planning and site acquisition • Identify location specific needs for new cells taking baseline, performance, capacity, and population into consideration. Evaluating coverage problems and requirements for coverage cells. • Utilizes propagation tools and other RF related equipment such as MapInfo, Mentum Planet, Actix and Schema Mentor for site candidate comparison, propagation and coverage review and selection, determination of coverage boundaries for extensions, FAA/FCC filings, overall sector review of cell site locations for upgrades/modifications, and traffic engineering and investigation. • RF Performance Assessment: Works directly with System Performance Engineers to review drive test data and network operational measures and to prioritize trouble areas.• Prepares necessary regulatory filings for sector/sites ensuring that compliance is met. • Capacity: Forecasts voice and data traffic. Designs and monitors air interface capacity reviewing with System Performance and Network Operations. Creates work orders to allocate and implement capacity additions and changes to RF network. Informs Network Engineering of requirements. Qualifications- BTS cell infrastructure including: Motorola and Nortel - Operating systems and applications including: Windows, MS Office and MapInfo - Wireless data services including: CDMA, EVDO, iDen (TDMA) • RF System Optimization techniques for voice and data for Motorola and Nortel infrastructure • Have a good understanding of engineering concepts. • Proficient in office computer applications: Excel, Word and PowerPoint • Good analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
