Doing "the right thing". Great client service. Seeing possibilities rather than reasons not to do things. Walking the walk. All values for which so many of us have been trained. They are among the most important values in any organization. But wanting them and having them is different. In essence, you know these values when you see them - think of giants like Warren Buffet, Jack Bogle, Bill Gates and Tim Cook.As a seasoned manager, consultant, project manager, relationship manager, and financial analyst, my aspiration has been to live by and improve upon these values constantly. Will I ever master them? I hope so, but in some ways, I hope not - I never want to be complacent! These are the guideposts in my work.I know a lot about a lot of things, but I don't know everything! Bottom line, I know my limitations. This is critical in any role, especially when leading a team as a manager or project manager. Look to your team to fill in the knowledge and technical gaps. Focus on the strengths. Stay disciplined and don't lose sight of the big picture. And always be willing to roll up your sleeves to get things done.
