The Privacy Program is a collaborative program working with over 140 schools and districts, technology vendors, and privacy advocates so that parents and teachers can make smart choices about the learning tools they use with their children and students, and so that schools and districts can participate in improving the technology used in K‐12 classrooms. The Privacy Program is rooted in transparency.• Developed and maintained a process, toolkit, questions, and an evaluation platform to evaluate privacy policies, terms of service, and basic information security practices of commonly used education technology applications.• Built and maintained multiple APIs to facilitate automated crawling of privacy policies, manage ML pipelines, facilitate privacy evaluations, audit existing evaluations for current information, and deliver completed privacy evaluations for users of privacy.commonsense.org.• Researched and developed multiple custom machine learning models used to augment and improve both efficiency and accuracy of the privacy evaluation process. These are purpose‐built fine‐tuned LLMs (AI) in production from 2020, pre ChatGPT. This work also included building the entire ML pipeline worker queues, and API.• Worked with senior leadership, funders, external partners, research organizations and privacy program director to drive vision and scope of work.• Navigated the various data sources and concerns to provide timely data analysis and visualizations to help convey the state of existing and emerging privacy practices.• Provided guidance and expertise on emerging technical and social trends organization wide.• Created a scalable authoring and document production pipeline that allowed for easy collaboration, iteration, and interlinked data rich reports. This process was used to develop multiple easy to navigate publication‐ready reports that were used in various research and advocacy efforts including informing congressional testimony and FTC action.

Some clients included Intel's Teaching Essentials Online, iEARN.org, MoodleRooms, MentorGraphics, FunnyMonkey, Oregon State University.• Developed and integrated single‐sign‐on (SSO) implementations to streamline to better support end‐users' engagement of respective platforms.• Facilitated and ensured custom developed LMS platforms and tools worked appropriately when deployed in non‐English‐speaking countries including non‐latin alphabets, and right‐to‐left languages.

FunnyMonkey was a full service consultancy and software development company. Our clients included the University of Oregon, Lumen Learning, Edutopia, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, the American Institute of Research (AIR), the National Writing Project, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.• Developed platforms to support authoring and distribution of openly licensed content. Humboldt State University's (now Cal Poly Humboldt) Courseware Development Center was focused on supporting faculty to effectively use technology including custom developed and maintained curriculum. In addition to supporting campuswide systems, including multiple learning management systems (LMS), the center was focused on supporting faculty to deliver high quality educational materials and curriculum including custom multimedia and technology assisted content for more effective learning outcomes.• Responsible for mentorship of junior developers, technical requirements, code review, general maintenance, bug‐fixes, and new development of LMS features.• Individually and as part of the larger IT teams defined system architecture, automation, database performance monitoring, and schema adjustments.• Provided LMS training and support for faculty and staff.• Responsible for expanding the open source Moodle platform to meet stakeholder needs including building a robust and configurable gradebook system integrated as a core feature of Moodle.• Collaborated internationally, within UC/CSU system, and with the local campus community to solve problems at various levels of scale from individual, campuswide, statewide, and in larger open source development communities.• Worked with faculty and campus community to determine project needs and draft project requirements and specifications in order to develop road‐map and strategy for rollout plans, bug‐fixes, and new features.
